College Student Mary Kate Cornett’s Family Slams “Malicious” Allegations as Police Open Investigation
An 18-year-old University of Mississippi student, Mary Kate Cornett, has become the target of a damaging online smear campaign, prompting her family to take legal action. After false rumors alleging inappropriate behavior involving her boyfriend’s family began circulating online, Mary Kate and her family have filed police reports with both the Oxford Police Department and the university’s campus police, according to multiple sources.
In a Facebook post on February 27, Mary Kate’s father, Justin Cornett, condemned the allegations as “totally and categorically false, malicious, organized, and defamatory.” He vowed to pursue all available criminal and civil actions against those responsible, stating, “I refuse to let my family be targeted. To those responsible, we will find you.” Justin also revealed that his daughter had been “publicly doxed,” forcing the family to take protective measures to ensure her safety.

Mary Kate, a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority, addressed the situation in a statement shared within her father’s post. She explained that the rumors were fueled by “partially and wholly edited screenshots, fake AI-generated videos, and manipulated photographs.” The widespread nature of the false allegations has compelled her to retain legal counsel and forensic data investigators. Additionally, she has had to make alternative arrangements for her education and living situation while the family works to identify those behind the attacks.
“The pain and heartbreak is immense,” Mary Kate wrote. “These lies have affected my family, my friends, my social organizations, and school administrators. Ultimately, I have confidence we will get through this and ask for any and all support while our family and others affected slowly heal.”
Mary Kate’s boyfriend, Evan Solis, also spoke out in her defense, taking to Instagram on February 27 to denounce the rumors. “These past couple of days have been extremely difficult for everyone in my life,” he wrote. “The unbelievable rumors about my family and Mary Kate’s are unacceptable and need to be addressed. The accusations are unequivocally false.” Solis emphasized his unwavering support for Mary Kate and his family, calling the situation “unacceptable.”
As the Cornett family works to uncover the source of the false allegations, they are focused on protecting Mary Kate’s well-being and reputation. E! News has reached out to the Oxford Police Department and the University of Mississippi for comment but has not yet received a response.
The incident highlights the growing issue of online harassment and the devastating impact it can have on individuals and their families. For now, Mary Kate and her loved ones are determined to seek justice and begin the process of healing from the ordeal.
