James McClean in road accident on way to Wrexham training
Wrexham Captain James McClean Undergoes Medical Checks Following Car Accident: Wrexham captain James McClean is being assessed by the club’s medical team after being involved in a car accident on Wednesday morning while traveling to training.
The League One club issued a statement confirming that a first-team player had been in a single-car accident, with no other vehicles involved. Emergency services responded to the incident, and the player later reported to the club for further medical evaluation.
Although the club did not officially name the player, local media identified 35-year-old former Republic of Ireland international McClean as the individual involved.
North Wales Police confirmed they received a report of a traffic incident on the A534 near Wrexham Golf Club shortly before 9:00 a.m. GMT. Their statement noted:
“Officers and colleagues from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which had blocked the road until the vehicle was recovered shortly before 10 a.m. No serious injuries were reported from the scene.”
Despite the accident, McClean’s participation in Wrexham’s upcoming match against League One leaders Birmingham City at the Stok Racecourse on Thursday evening remains uncertain.
Ahead of the game, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson spoke out about the treatment McClean has faced from opposition fans. The midfielder was targeted with objects thrown from the stands during Wrexham’s recent 2-1 defeat to Shrewsbury Town.
Parkinson emphasized the need for the EFL to take stronger action, stating that McClean has endured persistent abuse throughout his career.
The incident adds to a challenging week for the club as they prepare for their next league fixture.
