Bhagirath Manjhi, son of ‘mountain man’, joins Congress; 6 more leaders inducted
On January 28, 2025, seven political leaders from Bihar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana joined the Indian National Congress (INC). The most prominent among them is Bhagirath Manjhi, the son of the legendary Dashrath Manjhi, known as the “Mountain Man” for his extraordinary feat of carving a path through a mountain in Bihar.
The induction ceremony took place at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Pawan Khera (Chairman, Media and Publicity wing of AICC) and Akhilesh Prasad Singh (Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee President).
The Leaders Who Joined:
- Bhagirath Manjhi – He joined the Congress with the intention of continuing his father’s legacy of empowering underprivileged communities. He recently participated in the ‘Samvidhaan Suraksha Sammelan’ in Patna, where he shared the stage with Rahul Gandhi.
- Manoj Prajapati – President of the All India Prajapati Kumbhar Sangh, Bihar. Prajapati is a long-time advocate for the empowerment of the Prajapati community and other backward classes in Bihar.
- Nishant Anand – A former AAP spokesperson with a distinguished academic and professional record.
- Nighat Abbas – A former BJP spokesperson who joined the Congress.
- Padma Shri Jagdish Prasad – A celebrated cardiac surgeon and former Director General of Health Services. He is well-known for his work in the medical field.
- Ali Anwar Ansari – A former Rajya Sabha Member and a social activist. He is a respected leader in social justice and secularism.
- Frank Huzur – A writer and journalist who also joined the Congress party.
